Troubleshoot one key or switch

Isolate a single-key problem from calibration, mapping, software capture, debris, or a replaceable switch without widening the fault.

Symptoms

One key does not respond, repeats, activates at the wrong point, produces another action, or behaves differently from the rest of the keyboard.

Applies to

Use this guide when the keyboard is otherwise detected and stable. The model determines whether its switch is user-replaceable.

Low-risk checks

  1. Disconnect the keyboard, wait five seconds, reconnect it, and avoid touching keys for ten seconds while it initializes.
  2. Test the key in a plain text field and another application to rule out a captured shortcut.
  3. In the App, confirm the selected device, profile, layer, ordinary mapping, actuation point, Rapid Trigger state, and advanced-key assignment for that position.
  4. Restore only the affected key to an ordinary default mapping and test before changing anything else.
  5. Check that the keycap moves freely and that no visible debris blocks travel. Do not add liquid cleaner.
  6. Run one guided calibration if the model is Hall-effect and the travel reading is inconsistent.
  7. Replace or swap the switch only when the exact model is hot-swappable and its official instructions permit user replacement.

Recovery steps

Restore the original mapping or the last confirmed profile. If an authorized switch swap moves the symptom with the switch, replace that switch with a compatible part.

Stop conditions

Stop if the switch socket, stem, keycap, or board is damaged; the key remains electrically active while untouched; or the model is not documented as user-serviceable.

Provide the key position, selected layer, mapping, calibration result, application test, and switch-swap result when applicable.
