Configure Multi-function Click (MT)

Assign safe click and hold actions, test the visible hold threshold, and restore an ordinary key when timing is unreliable.

What you will accomplish

Configure Multi-function Click (MT) (A key behavior that produces one action on a quick click and another action when held through the selected threshold) so one harmless key produces a Click action on a quick release and a Hold action after the visible threshold.

  1. Export or duplicate the current profile and choose one harmless test key.
  2. Open Advanced Keys, choose Multi-function Click (MT), and select the key.
  3. Assign one low-risk Click action and one familiar Hold action.
  4. Start with the displayed default hold time. The App accepts 200–1000 ms in 10 ms increments; do not copy another user's threshold without testing it.
  5. Perform a quick click, a deliberate hold, and several presses close to the threshold. Confirm which action occurs in each case.
  6. Change the threshold by one 10 ms step only when the borderline result is consistently wrong, then repeat all three tests.
  7. Test the layer boundary. Without RT or a modifier action, the action stays on the layer where the press began. RT or a modifier action can instead end it at a layer change. Fully release the selected key before testing the destination layer.
  8. Select Save to keyboard only after quick, held, borderline, release, and layer tests are predictable.

Combining MT with Rapid Trigger

The hold timer follows the key's detected activation, not simply how long your finger touches the key. With RT enabled, a small rebound before the hold threshold can count as a release and produce Click. After Hold starts, an RT release ends that held action. Pressing down again starts a fresh click-versus-hold decision.

Test a steady hold first, then a shallow rebound before and after the threshold. If intended holds become clicks, turn RT off on this physical key or make its release response less sensitive before changing the MT timer. Read Configure Rapid Trigger for the shared Main/Fn RT settings.

An empty Click or Hold assignment means no output for that branch; it does not restore the printed key or disable the other branch. Edit these actions in Advanced Keys. Remove MT first if the key should instead use an ordinary remap or macro.

Confirm success

Quick releases consistently produce the Click action, deliberate holds consistently produce the Hold action, and borderline presses can be corrected with one small threshold change.

Save result

Editing changes the current working configuration. Save to device (Store the current settings on the device so they remain after the App disconnects or power is restored) through the App's Save to keyboard action after the threshold is stable.

Limits and cautions

Recovery

Release the key, remove the MT assignment, restore an ordinary mapping, and use Save to keyboard. If only the timing is unreliable, return to the previous threshold before removing the behavior.
