DARKBEACON GUIDE
Recover from an interrupted or failed update
Distinguish blocked device access from an interrupted update, protect power, and perform only a guided retry or recovery.
Applies to: Blade keyboards (61, 68, 84, 87, and 100), Flux keyboards (61, 68, 84, 87, and 100), Flux 68, Flux 84, and Flux 87 regional models, Devil Breaker and related keyboards, Steampunk, Other supported wireless keyboards shown in the App
Symptoms
Update progress stops, the App reports failure, the device does not return normally, or the App finishes one displayed step but does not complete the overall update.
DarkBeacon App may also be unable to access the keyboard before installation starts. An access problem does not by itself mean that a firmware installation was interrupted.
Applies to
Use this guide when a device firmware update or an approved recovery action for the exact keyboard is blocked, interrupted, or reports failure. Keep the original cable, computer, update screen, and visible result available. The third-party driver checks below apply to Windows.
Low-risk checks
- Do not unplug while progress is still advancing. Wait for the App's documented timeout or final state.
- Record the displayed device name, starting and target versions, update source, last visible step, message, and whether the device disconnected and returned.
- If the App shows several steps, record each one as completed, failed, or not started. Do not assume that an overall failure means no step finished.
- Keep stable USB power. Before starting an update, close other device-control applications, but keep the application performing the update open while it is working.
- Perform one reconnect or retry only when the App explicitly directs it for the recorded state.
- If the App recognizes a recovery state for the same model, follow that guided action once. App 1.16.206 can recognize more interrupted-update states, but that does not make a similar model's recovery package safe.
Recovery steps
Possible third-party driver interference
A keyboard uses USB HID, the standard Windows connection used by input devices. Drivers installed by other keyboard-control, remapping, or virtual-input software may take over or interfere with part of this connection. This can prevent DarkBeacon App from reading or writing keyboard settings, identifying the device fully, or starting an update.
The keyboard may still type normally or appear in Windows without a warning, while the App reports Access denied or cannot communicate with it. These symptoms suggest a possible access conflict; they do not prove that a particular driver is responsible or that the keyboard's firmware is damaged. Having third-party software installed is not, by itself, evidence of interference.
Before starting an update, fully exit other device-control applications, including background instances. Closing an application may release its access, but an installed driver can remain active. If access remains blocked, do not assume that repeatedly updating or factory-resetting the keyboard will resolve a Windows driver conflict. Never close DarkBeacon App or disconnect the keyboard while an update is in progress.
After a guided update or recovery completes
After normal detection returns, verify the resulting version, ordinary input, profile, calibration, lighting, screen, and wireless behavior. Restore settings only after the App confirms the update result.
Stop conditions
Stop after one documented recovery fails, after repeated disconnects, when the exact device or update is uncertain, or when the App would repeat a step already marked complete. Stop immediately for heat, smell, or visible damage.
An unchanged access error after one directed retry is also a stop condition. If you cannot tell whether installation started, leave DarkBeacon App and the keyboard connected rather than interrupting a possible update.
