Configure Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Directions (SOCD)

Pair two opposing inputs, test every conflict choice shown by the App, and recover an ordinary mapping without guessing at unavailable modes.

What you will accomplish

Configure Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Directions (SOCD) (The selected result when opposite directional inputs are active together) for two harmless opposing inputs and verify the visible conflict rule.

  1. Export or duplicate the current profile. Choose a harmless pair, such as left and right navigation in a practice document.
  2. Open Advanced Keys, choose Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Directions (SOCD), and select exactly two opposing keys.
  3. Choose one option currently displayed by the App:
    • Last Input Priority makes the most recently activated key take priority.
    • Absolute Priority keeps the selected priority key active while both keys overlap.
    • Neutral produces neither selected direction while both are active.
  4. Test the first key alone, the second key alone, both press orders, simultaneous overlap, and both release orders.
  5. Change only the conflict option and repeat the same sequence before comparing results.
  6. Test the layer boundary. Without RT or modifier actions, held inputs remain associated with the layer where the press began. RT or a modifier action can instead release an affected input at the boundary. Fully release both keys before testing the destination layer.
  7. Select Save to keyboard only after every available choice you intend to use has one predictable overlap and release result.

SOCD with RT, remapping, and empty outputs

RT changes when each key counts as active; SOCD still decides which active input may act. With Last Input Priority, an RT release followed by re-activation counts as a new input even without a full physical release. If the winning input releases while its partner remains active, the partner can act again. Absolute Priority still favors the chosen key during overlap, and Neutral still suppresses both during overlap.

Use Remap to change a member's ordinary keyboard output without changing which physical keys form the pair. Clear Key Value leaves that member with no output but still able to win priority and suppress its partner. Disable excludes it from the pair while disabled. Restoring the ordinary mapping alone does not remove SOCD; remove the pair assignment when you want independent keys again.

First test both keys with ordinary outputs and RT off. Add RT afterward and repeat both press orders with partial releases and re-presses. See Configure Rapid Trigger for the distinction between disabling RT and disabling the key.

Confirm success

Single-key input remains normal, overlap follows the selected visible rule, every release order returns to neutral, and changing layers does not leave either direction active.

Save result

Editing changes the current working configuration. Save to device (Store the current settings on the device so they remain after the App disconnects or power is restored) through the App's Save to keyboard action to make the tested rule persistent.

Limits and cautions

Recovery

Release both keys. Remove the SOCD binding to recover independent keys, restore ordinary mappings if needed, test each key alone, and use Save to keyboard again. Use factory reset only if the broader recovery guide requires it.
